A Journey into the Legends of Transylvania

Step beyond the pages of history and enter a Romania where legend and reality have walked side by side for centuries. This immersive five-day experience explores medieval castles, ancient forests, forgotten villages, and the mysterious traditions that gave birth to the legends of vampires, strigoi, and moroi.

This retreat is designed for those fascinated by folklore, medieval history, Gothic atmosphere, and the rich mythology of Eastern Europe. Throughout the journey we will combine historical exploration with symbolic ceremonies, evening discussions, storytelling, and moments of quiet reflection in some of Romania’s most legendary locations.

Day 1 – Thursday, 20 May

Arrival in Bucharest

Guests arrive throughout the day.

In the evening we gather for a welcome dinner where everyone meets the group.

Our opening presentation introduces the fascinating world of Romanian vampire folklore:

Who were the Strigoi?
What are the Moroi?
Ancient Romanian beliefs about restless spirits.
How these legends evolved into the modern vampire myth.

As night falls we hold our Opening Ceremony, welcoming participants into the symbolic journey ahead.

Day 2 – Friday, 21 May

Peleș Castle – Brașov

After breakfast we travel north through the Carpathian Mountains.

We visit the magnificent Peleș Castle, one of Europe’s most beautiful royal residences, surrounded by dense forests and mountain legends.

Continuing toward Brașov, we explore the medieval streets, Gothic churches and hidden passages of one of Transylvania’s best-preserved Saxon cities.

Ancient superstitions still remembered in rural Romania

Day 3 – Saturday, 22 May

Medieval Villages of Transylvania

Today we leave the tourist routes behind.

We visit several traditional medieval villages where old customs continue to survive and where countless legends have been preserved through generations.

Topics explored include:

Ancient cemeteries
Sacred wells
Places believed to be haunted
Protective folk magic
Stories collected from local traditions
Hidden valleys where folklore says supernatural beings once wandered

Participants will enjoy plenty of time for photography, walking and absorbing the peaceful atmosphere of rural Transylvania.

Storytelling Night

Traditional Romanian vampire legends shared beneath the stars.

Day 4 – Sunday, 23 May

Sighișoara

We spend the day exploring one of Europe’s best-preserved inhabited medieval citadels.

Highlights include:

The Clock Tower
Medieval streets
Ancient towers
Historic churches
The birthplace traditionally associated with Vlad Țepeș

Discussion:

History versus Legend

How the historical figure of Vlad the Impaler became connected with Dracula and why Romania developed one of the world’s richest traditions of vampire folklore.

As darkness falls we gather for our final symbolic ceremony celebrating courage, transformation and the timeless mysteries that continue to inspire the legends of Transylvania.

Farewell dinner.

Day 5 – Monday, 24 May

Return Journey

After breakfast we begin our journey back toward Bucharest.

During the drive we conclude the experience with an open discussion reflecting on the myths, history and traditions encountered throughout the tour.

Guests depart with unforgettable memories of Romania’s castles, forests, medieval towns and centuries-old legends.
